An Open Letter to Barack Obama

I’ve followed Barack Obama’s journey to the White House since he started his real push in 2006. But what has impressed me the most has not only been his qualities as a leader, but also his qualities as a man and human being. So a few weeks ago—knowing that he answers many letters personally every day—I wrote him directly at the White House. In addition to a copy of The Problem with Women… is Men, I enclosed a letter explaining my views/perceptions of his human qualities. And… lo and behold… yesterday I had a few visitors on my site originating from house.gov and whitehouse.gov. So, perhaps my package got through.

Below is the letter I sent.

Mr. President: If you got it, thanks to you (or your staff) for visiting. I fervent hope is that you might have a few moments to respond.

Mr. President:

Please excuse this unsolicited letter, as I am not writing about your work as the leader of this country, nor to comment on any national issue or governmental policy. Rather, I am reaching out to connect and compliment you on your qualities as a man, father and husband. My perceptions are based entirely on impressions, as we obviously haven’t met. But I have spent an exorbitant amount of time interviewing people (over 2,500 to-date, including 1,600 for the writing of my book) and it’s become second nature to spot those people that are… different.

The fact that you “selected” a strong woman as a life partner—and that you honor and respect her as an equal—shows that you transcend all the drama and modern-day fiascos that American Politics has brought to the world stage. And as a family man—with pizza and movie nights on Fridays, and two kids that don’t have a housekeeper taking care of their every whim—your status as a role model seems to be not only welcome, but refreshing in these morally-confusing times.

You and I seem to be cut from the same cloth (if I may be so bold), trying to change things for the better in our families, in our lives, and in the lives of those around us—you from the White House, and me with my book, The Problem with Women… is Men: The Evolution of a Man’s Man to a Man of Higher Consciousness. I have enclosed a copy of the latter in the hopes that, as a man of influence, you might read it and offer your comments on what I’m trying to accomplish (read: placing accountability and the notion to change on men, instead of asking women to put in all the effort). Perhaps the hope of receiving your thoughts is too high, as you are a man that is faced with enough crises to choke a horse… either way, I wanted to reach out and connect with a kindred spirit.

In closing, please let me extend my gratitude that you are in office. It’s high-time this country elected a leader, instead of a politician.
